United's Quaranta out 4-6 months

The Sports Network

Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - D.C. United's Santino Quaranta will have surgery Tuesday after injuring his left foot in practice last Friday and will miss the remainder of the season, according to the Washington Post.

Quaranta, who has two goals and six assists, will be sidelined for four to six months. He damaged the plantar plate in his left foot, an injury similar to one he sustained with Red Bull New York three years ago.

"My foot took all my body weight," Quaranta told the Post, referring to a play in practice when he jammed his foot into the ground. "I knew it was a bad situation."

"I don't know if they think I'm 80 years old or what, but I think it will be three to four months," he added.

D.C. hosts the Columbus Crew on Saturday.
