Boating safety day on Saturday: Miami-Dade Parks will hold a Boating Safety Awareness Day on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black Point Marina, 24775 SW 87th Ave. in Cutler Bay. The date falls during the Columbus Day holiday weekend, when thousands of boaters take to Biscayne Bay. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and police and representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be on hand. Benefit tournament on tap: A fishing tournament to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters will be Saturday at Port of the Islands Resort and Marina in Naples. Rooms with boat slips are available. Bonefish event starts Sunday: The Mercury Outboards Bonefishing World Championship/Islamorada All-Tackle Bonefish Tournament will start Sunday and end Oct. 17. Anglers can fish with fly, spin, plug or bait. Entry fee is $1,000 per angler. E-mail csa sun@aol.com.
Trail group schedules meeting: The Big Cypress chapter of the Florida Trail Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Palmetto High School, 7460 SW 118th St., Room 900 in Miami.
