Captain Wayne Conn of the Reward Fleet out of Miami Beach Marina reported excellent kingfish action off the Dade County coast in 100 to 160 feet of water. The kingfish are averaging 5 to 15 pounds. Conn reported that schools of mullet are attracting lots of attention from snook, tarpon, jacks, ladyfish and bluefish at the mouth of Government Cut.

MIAMI-DADE/

BROWARD

Captain Mike Johnson on the charter boat Local Knowledge out of Fort Lauderdale reported steady action on kingfish in the 5- to 12-pound range, scattered dolphins and a few sailfish along the beaches. . . . Captains Jim Hobales and Raul Montoro had nonstop action on bluefish, snook, tarpon, ladyfish and jacks fishing Haulover Inlet at night. . . . Captain Bouncer Smith on Bouncers Dusky out of Miami Beach marina has been leading his clients to catches of kingfish, sailfish, amberjacks, tuna, snappers, groupers, snook and tarpon in Government Cut.

KEYS

Pat Bennet of Weston competed in the Marathon International Bonefish Tournament. Bennet won the tournament with 47 releases in three days of fishing. Bennet's guide was captain Albert Ponzoa of Marathon. . . . Preston Harpel fished off of Key Largo aboard the charter boat Beaver with captain Martin Formento and caught snowy grouper, a barrel fish, golden tilefish and tunas while deep jigging 15 miles offshore. . . . Captain Ted Benbow of Skins and Fins Charters out of Islamorada has been running to Florida Bay and releasing up to 25 snook on artificial and live baits.

TREASURE COAST

Captain Tom Van Horn of Mosquito Coast Fishing Charters reported that concentrated schools of baitfish are moving along the beaches and attracting steady action from snook, tarpon, kingfish, cobia, jack crevalles, oversized redfish and sharks. . . . Captain Charlie Conners of FishTales Charters out of Port St. Lucie reported that river fishing has been great, with schools of jacks and ladyfish tearing up the schools of finger mullet and sea trout.

FLORIDA BAY

Joe Gilmartin from Chicago and Bob Gifford from Pompano Beach fished out of Flamingo with captain Jorge Valverde of Low Places Guide Service. Each released snook, tarpon and bonefish on fly. . . . Ed Prouty Sr. and Ed Prouty Jr. from St. Petersburg teamed to release tarpon up to 100 pounds while fishing in the back country of Whitewater Bay with captain Pete Silot the Salt Water Junkie.

SOUTHWEST COAST

Captain Bob LeMay fished the Everglades City area with fly fishermen and had good action on small snook and ladyfish. LeMay said there were mullet and pilchards along the beaches, and large snook and tarpon were eating the mullet.

FRESHWATER

Alex Picos of Davie won the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Everglades Division Super Tournament on Lake Okeechobee with a two-day catch of 10 largemouth bass weighing in at 38 pounds, 14 ounces. . . . Fishing a half day with captain Alan Zaremba in the C-1 canal, Curtiss Epps of Sunshine Ranches caught 18 peacock bass and two ladyfish on Chug Bugs.
