The International Olympic Committee has re-elected Jacques Rogge as its president.

Rogge was given near unanimous approval, winning election again by an 88-1 count to close the 121st session of the IOC. This will be the final four-year term for Rogge. IOC presidents are restricted to an eight-year term, followed by a single four-year term.

"We will narrow the gap in sport between the developed and the developing worlds; and between men and women," Rogge said. "We will redouble our efforts to place sport at the service of mankind - to inspire young and old alike; to give athletes the opportunity to lead by example; and promote the Olympic values of fair play, respect, solidarity and the pursuit of excellence."

The IOC first elected the 67-year-old Rogge as president in 2001. He competed in the sailing competitions at Olympics in 1968 in Mexico, 1972 in Munich and 1976 in Montreal.
