Just when the Miami Dolphins filled one vacancy, another opened up.
Linebackers coach George Edwards will leave to become the next Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator, Fox Sports first reported Thursday morning. He’ll join recently hired head coach Mike Zimmer there.
It’s not yet official, however, as neither the Vikings nor the Dolphins announced any such move Thursday.
Edwards has twice been the Dolphins’ linebackers coach, first from 2005-2009, then again the previous two years. He was also the defensive coordinator with the Bills at the University of Florida in the interim.
Should the Dolphins decide to replace Edwards in-house, they have a candidate in waiting. David Corrao is the team’s assistant linebackers coach.
As for the general manager opening, the Dolphins conducted no new interviews Thursday. A possible target, Vikings assistant GM George Paton, declined an interview request, Pro Football Talk reported.
