Dwyane Wade acknowledged on Monday that he fathered a son while separated last year from fiancée and actress Gabrielle Union.
Wade proposed to Union on Dec. 21, and news of Wade’s son was reported Monday morning. Speaking before the Heat’s game against the Nuggets on Monday night, Wade indicated he and Union have resolved any issues that news of the son might have put on their relationship.
“Like I’ve said, this is something that my family knows and my now fiancée worked through when we got back together, and understood that we wanted to continue our lives together and continue supporting our family and we’re going to do that,” Wade said. “That’s what I’ve always done.”
Wade spoke this summer about a separation last year from Union.
“I had a time a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy,” Wade said. “So, I’m moving on.”
Entertainment Tonight broke the news about Wade’s child. Wade said he has seen his son, who Wade said is less than 2 months old. Wade and Union began dating in 2009.
“This is something, obviously, private for my family that we will continue to deal with … but we have a blessing to the bloodline, to the Wade bloodline,” Wade said.
