The Heat began its long odyssey of excellence and adventure and back-to-back-to-back trips to the NBA Finals four years ago with a preseason training camp inside an Air Force Base in Pensacola.

This latest preseason exercise probably won’t feel so much like boot camp. The team is going to the Bahamas.

The Heat announced Tuesday that its first four days of training camp will take place at The Atlantis Paradise Island Resort. The team will hold its annual preseason “media day” on Monday at AmericanAirlines Arena and then leave directly for the rest.

Coach Erik Spoelstra will then conduct two-a-day practices inside a ballroom at the resort. The Heat has 18 players on its training-camp roster, including former first-round draft pick Michael Beasley, who will participate in camp with a nonguaranteed contract.

In a news release, the team thanked Perry Christie, the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, and Obie Wilchcombe, the minister of tourism, “for their assistance.”
