In a race that saw 24 lead changes among 16 drivers, Jeff Burton cameaway as the winner, as he outlasted Kasey Kahne by less than a second. Burtonproved to have the dominant car, as he led the final 57 laps for his 21stcareer Sprint Cup title. 2004-05 winner of this race Jimmie Johnson, who saton the pole, led for a race-high 67 laps, but finished sixth.In 2007, Jeff Gordon reclaimed the lead on lap 332 of the 337-laprace and held on to edge Clint Bowyer by less than a second for his 81st andlast career Sprint Cup title. Pole sitter Ryan Newman failed to finish therace due to an accident and placed 28th. Jimmie Johnson, who started second onthe grid, led six times for a race-high 95 laps and finished 14th.Kasey Kahne completed the Lowe's Motor Speedway sweep in 2006, as hecrossed the finish line 1.624 seconds ahead of Jimmie Johnson. Kahne, whocaptured the 2006 Coca-Cola 600 earlier in the season, dominated the race,leading eight times for a race-high 134 laps. Construction began on Charlotte Motor Speedway, asLowe's Motor Speedway was then known, in 1959.
