Notes

With two wins in his last three Nationwide Series starts, Kyle Buschhas a stranglehold on the points race with only two events remaining. Busch, awinner last week in Texas, boasts a 272-point advantage over Carl Edwards anda 292-point lead over Brad Keselowski. To clinch the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series championship at Phoenix, Buschneeds to lead by 195 points after the race. To guarantee that, he needs toplace at least 15th, or 16th with at least one lap led, or 18th and the mostlaps led.Last year, Edwards defeated pole sitter Denny Hamlin by a mere 0.096 of asecond for his 19th career Nationwide Series title. Edwards led the final 78laps and held off a hard-charging Hamlin in a green-white-checkered finish.Hamlin led twice for 62 laps, while third-place finisher Kevin Harvick ledfor 53 laps.Starting in the 4th position, Kyle Busch dominated the 2007 race, as he led132 laps, including the final 86 for his 11th of 29 career Nationwide Seriestitles. Busch took the checkered flag, 0.305 of a second ahead of MattKenseth. Pole sitter Clint Bowyer finished third. In 2006, Matt Kenseth edged Kevin Harvick by less than a second for his 20thcareer Nationwide Series title. With the win, Kenseth became the second driverto win a Phoenix race from the pole, joining Carl Edwards who accomplished thefeat in 2005. Kenseth dominated the race, leading for a race- high 125 laps.Back in 2005, Edwards posted his fifth win of that season, as he crossed thefinish line 0.246 of a second ahead of runner-up Clint Bowyer. Edwards, whostarted on the pole, led 103 of the 200 laps, including the final 20, as tookthe checkered flag in front of an estimated crowd of 55,000.The 2009 Nationwide Series season concludes November 21 at Homestead-MiamiSpeedway.
