Carl Edwards will start on the pole for Friday night's Dollar General 300 Nationwide Series race after topping the charts in qualifying at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Edwards, currently second in points, lapped the 1.5-mile oval at 183.799 m.p.h. (29.380 seconds) for his sixth pole of the season and the 17th of his Nationwide career. Edwards made his qualifying lap midway through the 49-car session, and knocked off his Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth from the pole.
Kenseth will start on the outside pole after posting a lap at 183.517 m.p.h.
Rookie Justin Allgaier qualified third, followed by David Gilliland and Kyle Busch, who holds a 155-point lead over Edwards with five races to go in the season.
Erik Darnell, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Reed Sorenson, Brian Vickers and Joey Logano completed the top-10. Logano has won the last two Nationwide races -- Kansas and California.
Terry Cook, Kevin Lepage, Casey Atwood, Derrike Cope, Peyton Sellers and Morgan Shepherd failed to qualify.
Today's 300-mile is scheduled to begin around 8:00 p.m. (et).
