Johnson wins in monstrous performance at Dover

The Sports Network

Jimmie Johnson gave his bid for a record fourth consecutive Sprint Cup Series championship a shot of momentum by winning Sunday's AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Johnson led 271 of 400 laps and easily held off points leader and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Mark Martin at the finish for his fourth victory of the season. He also won at "The Monster Mile" for the fifth time, which is the most among active drivers.

With the victory, Johnson moved to within 10 points of Martin, who finished second.

Matt Kenseth, a non-Chase driver, finished third, followed by championship contenders Juan Pablo Montoya and Kurt Busch.

Montoya is now 65 points behind Martin, while Busch trails by 75 points.

Early in the race, rookie Joey Logano was involved in a horrifying crash. Logano's car flipped eight times before it came to rest on the track. He was not injured and able to exit the car on his own power.
