After placing second in 2007, Carl Edwards rebounded with a victorylast year, as he defeated Scott Wimmer by 1.552 seconds for his 17th careerNationwide Series title. Edwards, currently second on the points list, hasincreased his victory output to 23, including three wins in 2009. Edwardsreclaimed the lead with 28 laps remaining and held on for the win. ClintBowyer led most of the way, leading for a race-high 195 laps, but he faded tothird. Pole sitter Joey Logano led the first seven laps and placed seventh.Domination was the word in 2007, as pole sitter Kyle Busch led for227 of the 252 laps, as he recorded his ninth career Nationwide Seriesvictory. Busch led the first 27 laps and the final 93, in all he was the frontrunner four times during the race, defeating Carl Edwards by 0.868 of asecond. With the win, Busch became the first pole sitter to take the checkeredflag since Dale Earnhardt Jr in 2002.Back in 2006, Kevin Harvick became the first back-to-back winner of this racesince Dale Earnhardt Jr in 1998-99, as he crossed the finish line 0.925 of asecond ahead of Greg Biffle. The win, his sixth of the 2006 season and 23rd ofhis Nationwide career, was a dominating one, as he led five times for a race-high 154 laps. Pole sitter Jeff Burton failed to finish the race due to brakeproblems and placed 40th. Burton led three times for a total of 39 laps.In 2005, Harvick clipped Paul Menard by less than a second for his 16th careerNationwide title and third of that season. Harvick, who started eighth on thegrid, reclaimed the lead on lap 215 and held on the rest of the way in frontof a crowd of 70,000. Harvick led for a total of 149 laps while Menard led for66. Pole sitter Mark Martin, who led for 10 laps, finished fourth.Richmond International Raceway had been a flat, one-half mile track since itwas built in 1946, but the old speedway was changed in 1988 when a majormakeover took place. Richmond was lengthened to its current three-quarter miledistance with new 14 degree turns and the original oval shape was transformedinto a tri-oval.Earnhardt Jr is the only three-time winner of this race. Other multiplechampions include, Tommy Ellis, Mark Martin, Harry Gant, Kenny Wallace andHarvick.Currently 18th on the points list, Eric McClure will make his 100th NationwideSeries start this week. McClure made his debut on the Nationwide circuit in2003.The next race on the Nationwide Series schedule is September 26 at DoverInternational Speedway.
