Miami FC is home again Saturday night, aiming to keep its perfect record against FC Edmonton. Miami went 3-0 against the Canadian club last year, and hopes to make it 4-0 at FIU’s Riccardo Silva Stadium.
The 7:30 p.m. game is being billed as Cuban Heritage Night. Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso will do the coin toss, and the evening will feature Cuban food and music. There will also be an Ariel Martinez t-shirt giveaway, honoring Miami FC’s Cuban playmaker.
Miami sits in third place behind Jacksonville and San Francisco in the NASL Spring Season standings with one win, one loss and two ties. Last week, the team escaped with a tie against North Carolina FC after Robert Baggio Kcria scored in the 95th minute.
Kcria, a 23-year-old midfielder, has been filling in at left back, and making the most of his opportunity. The New York native skipped college and began his pro career in Austria with SC Wiener Neustadt. His father is Albanian, and he is named after his father’s favorite player, Italian legend Roberto Baggio.
Last season, Miami not only beat Edmonton all three times they played, but they won with shutouts. A win Saturday would give Miami eight points in the standings. Jacksonville leads with eight, San Francisco has six, and Miami five.
