St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox have recalled right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo from Triple-A Pawtucket to start Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ranaudo, 24, returns to the Red Sox to make his third career start after spending some time with the team earlier this season. Over his previous two outings with Boston, Ranaudo went 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA, allowing six runs over 12 innings.
Boston optioned left-handed pitcher Edwin Escobar to Pawtucket to make room for Ranaudo on the 25-man roster.
