New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Houston Astros designated hitter Chris Carter was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.
Carter batted .321 in seven games last week with four home runs, nine RBI and five runs scored. He led the majors in homers and the AL in RBI and total bases (21) to earn his first career weekly award.
The 27-year-old hit a pair of home runs and tied a career-high with five RBI on Tuesday to lead the Astros to a 10-4 win over the Twins. Carter is tied for the most multi-homer games in the majors alongside Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion with six.
