Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals have placed relief pitcher Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list due to a stiff neck.
Picked up as a free agent by the Royals on July 6, the lefty has compiled an 0-1 mark with a 3.48 ERA in 12 appearances for his new team. He was 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA in 38 appearances for the White Sox earlier this season, but Chicago released the 13-year veteran on July 3.
The Royals, who entered Tuesday in first place in the AL Central, used the open spot to activate new acquisition Josh Willingham to the active roster. Willingham was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Twins on Monday.
