Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - It turns out Brett Lawrie's return from the disabled list was an abbreviated one.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed the third baseman back on the 15-day DL Thursday with a strained left oblique.

Lawrie was activated before Tuesday's game, but left after three innings with tightness in his lower back. An MRI exam revealed the oblique strain.

In 70 games this season, Lawrie is batting .247 with 12 homers and 38 RBI.

The Blue Jays recalled pitcher Rob Rasmussen from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the roster spot.
