San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres reinstated shortstop Everth Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.
Cabrera was placed on the DL July 2 with a strained left hamstring. He made seven rehab appearances with Triple-A El Paso, hitting 7-for-20 with four runs scored.
The 27-year-old, who has never played a full season since making his debut in 2009, is hitting .218 in 80 games for the Padres this year.
To make room on the active roster, pitcher Jason Lane was designated for assignment. Lane, a former outfielder with the Houston Astros, made his first career start on the mound Monday and pitched well in a 2-0 loss to Atlanta, allowing just a run on six hits over six innings.
Lane hit 26 homers and drove in 78 runs in 2005.
