St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals have signed pitcher Joe Saunders to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Omaha, the team announced Tuesday.
Saunders, an All-Star and 17-game winner with the Angels in 2008, had been designated for assignment by Texas last week and eventually released by the Rangers.
The veteran lefty struggled mightily over eight starts with the Rangers this season, compiling an 0-5 record with a 6.13 earned run average and allowing opposing hitters to hit .356 off of him.
Saunders owns an 89-86 overall record with a 4.35 ERA over 10 major league seasons with the Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Rangers.
