Mariners' Seager named AL Player of the Week

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager has been selected as the American League's Player of the Week for games played between June 23-29.

Seager batted .583 (14-for-24) with an MLB-best .958 slugging percentage over six games -- five of which he collected multiple hits -- to earn his weekly honor this season. The 26-year-old had two home runs and three doubles among his 14 hits, while scoring five runs and leading the AL with eight RBI.

Seager previously shared the AL's Player of the Week award with Chicago first baseman Jose Abreu for the period of April 21-27.

Others considered for this week's honor were fellow Mariner Felix Hernandez, Abreu, Houston's Jose Altuve, Texas' Adrian Beltre and Toronto's Jose Reyes.
