White Sox recall Surkamp, DFA Downs

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox have designated pitcher Scott Downs for assignment and recalled pitcher Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Charlotte.

Surkamp went 3-4 with a 4.54 ERA and 84 strikeouts over 14 games (11 starts) with Charlotte this season, his first in the White Sox organization.

The left-hander is 2-3 with a 7.36 ERA in seven starts over two major-league seasons with the Giants (2011, '13).

Downs, 38, went 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA in 38 relief appearances this season, his first with the White Sox.
