Jay Bouwmeester had a goal and two assists as the Florida Panthers clobbered the New York Islanders, 6-0, in the final game of the NHL preseason.
Anthony Stewart, Kamil Kreps, Rostislav Olesz, Brett McLean and Nathan Horton each lit the lamp for the Panthers, who open the regular season at Carolina on Friday. Ville Peltonen contributed three assists, while Tomas Vokoun stopped all 29 shots to earn the shutout.
The Islanders will look to forget about the preseason finale when their season starts in New Jersey on Friday, as Rick DiPietro was beaten six times on 34 shots.
New York also suffered a serious injury when defenseman Chris Lee was carried off the ice on a stretcher in the third period after being checked into the boards by Olesz.
