The Columbus Blue Jackets released defenseman Richard Matvichuk from his tryout contract on Monday.
A 14-year veteran of the NHL, his last appearance in the NHL was as a member of the New Jersey Devils in the 2006-07 season. He was limited to the final game of the regular season due to back surgery, but did appear in nine playoff games.
Matvichuk spent the bulk of his career with the Minnesota/Dallas franchise where he played 733 games and totaled 38 goals and 129 assists. In 63 games with the Devils in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, he had one goal and 10 assists.
