The Phoenix Coyotes will try to break out of their recent scoring slump in a matchup tonight with the Pacific Division-rival Dallas Stars at Jobing.com Arena.

The Coyotes have scored just one goal in their last two games and have been held to a pair of goals or less in five of their last eight contests. Phoenix ranks 28th in the NHL at just 2.32 goals per game and hasn't netted more than three goals in a contest since a 4-1 win over Columbus on October 28.

Phoenix was shut out, 4-0, by Edmonton on Monday and then skated to a 2-1 setback in Calgary on Wednesday. Keith Yandle had the Coyotes' lone score with a game-tying power-play goal in the third period before the Flames netted the winner with 5:44 to play.

Ilya Bryzgalov turned back 24-of-26 shots in the loss, the Coyotes' sixth in their last nine games.

"It's starting to get a little monotonous that we can't score goals," said Phoenix's Shane Doan. "We had scoring chances and couldn't get it in. Our goalie played well and [the offense wasn't] good enough."

Although the offense has been skidding, Phoenix's blueline got a bit of a boost on Wednesday when Ed Jovanovski and Zbynek Michalek were both activated from injured reserve. The defenders had both been sidelined with lower-body ailments, with Jovanovski missing the last eight games and Michalek nine.

Phoenix plays four of its next five at home, where it is 7-5-0 this season.

The Stars come into town having just closed out a 2-1-1 homestand. Dallas had won two straight for just the second time this season before Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to St. Louis.

Brenden Morrow tied the game with just 25.4 seconds left in the third period, but the Blues netted two shootout goals to the Stars' one. Stephane Robidas and Toby Petersen also scored for the Stars in regulation, while Marty Turco logged 35 saves.

Mike Modano and Brad Richards both added a pair of assists for Dallas, with Richards having recorded seven helpers and eight points over his last three games.

Although Stars' leading goal-scorer James Neal returned from a two-game suspension stemming from a boarding infraction last Thursday, defender Nicklas Grossman missed his second game in a row because of a lower-body injury.

Dallas, which is just 1-5 in shootouts and 6-3-3 on the road this season, has lost four straight to the Coyotes, including a 3-2 setback in Phoenix on November 14.

Modano had a goal and an assist and Turco made 28 saves in that loss, yielding the game-winner to Phoenix's Radim Vrbata early in the third period. Bryzgalov made 26 saves in improving to 8-5-2 with a 2.12 goals-against average lifetime versus Dallas.

Turco is 16-13-1 with a tie and 2.40 GAA all-time against the Coyotes franchise.

Dallas has lost three straight and five of its last seven in Glendale.
