The Buffalo Sabres will try to put the brakes on their longest losing streak of the season when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers for a Black Friday matinee at Wachovia Center.

The Sabres have lost four straight, but did post their last victory in Philadelphia when they edged the Flyers, 3-2, on November 14. Buffalo avenged a 5-2 home loss against Philly from November 6 and ended a five-game winning streak for the Flyers in the series. Philadelphia has still taken six of the last eight encounters, but Buffalo has won six of nine in the City of Brotherly Love.

However, Buffalo is 0-3-1 since the victory over the Flyers and was shut out Wednesday night in Washington. Semyon Varlamov made 25 saves and Alex Ovechkin scored to help the Capitals record the 2-0 victory at Verizon Center.

Ryan Miller stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced for the Sabres, who were blanked for the second time this season.

"We didn't get a lot of bounces with the puck," said Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. "There were times we did a lot of good things, but didn't get rewarded for it."

Buffalo has dropped four of its last five road games and is 5-4-0 as the visiting club this season. The Sabres will close out November with two of three games on the road before returning to western New York for a five-game homestand.

The Flyers will try to build some momentum today after ending a three-game losing streak Wednesday night against the New York Islanders. The 2-1 victory marked the final outing on a five-game road trip for Philadelphia, which will play three of its next four tests at Wachovia Center.

Brian Boucher stopped 28-of-29 shots and Scott Hartnell scored late in regulation to lead the Flyers to the close win over the Isles at Nassau Coliseum. Mike Richards also tallied for the Flyers to give him 10 goals on the season.

"It wasn't the start we were looking for. We were a little sloppy at the start of the game but kept them to the one goal," Boucher said. "We scored a big goal in the second and the go-ahead goal in the third. It was a textbook road game."

Boucher made just his third start of the season, but played in his second straight game after replacing the pulled Ray Emery in Monday's loss to Colorado. Head coach John Stevens will go back to Emery as the starter today.

The Flyers will once again be without forward Danny Briere, who will serve the second part of a two-game suspension for delivering an elbow to the head of Colorado's Scott Hannan earlier this week. Briere, who has 10 goals and six assists this season, will be eligible to return tomorrow in Atlanta.

Philadelphia is 8-3-1 as the host this year and has won five of its last six on home ice.
