    The Plantation football team did it the hard way, but the Colonels got it done, knocking off rival South Plantation 6-0 in a tiebreaker for second place Monday night at PAL Field.

    The annual Soul Bowl was a tale of two halves. Blanche Ely won the first. Dillard won the second, but Ely did did just enough to hold on for a 34-21 victory Saturday in front of a crowd of 8,000 at Lockhart Stadium.

    Deerfield Beach wins district title

    Deerfield Beach opened its new stadium in style Saturday night.

    In its first true home game in two years, Deerfield Beach put on a dominating performance against Douglas to claim the District 9-6A title with a 42-6 victory at Butler Stadium.

    Aquinas wins regional swim meet

    Pacing poolside after his girls' 400-freestyle relay team finished fourth in the last event of the Region 4-3A swimming finals Wednesday, St. Thomas Aquinas' Jim Parmenter did not look or sound like the coach of a first-place squad.

    Everglades wins again to capture district

    Everglades was winless through three games. Now the Gators are district champions and have won five of their past six.

    In a mostly defensive struggle against District 11-6A rival Cypress Bay, Everglades prevailed 14-13, shocking the home crowd that was hoping for a district title Friday night.

    Northeast tops Taravella; Barnes leads Nova

    The name Devon Wright and shutdown are not words that have been used often, but thats exactly what happened Friday night as Northeast shut down Wright and in turn beat Taravella 23-6 to inch closer to its first playoff berth since 1995.
