Defending champ Varela stays unbeaten

Andres Cardona, Alex Joseph, and Alejandro Rodriguez each scored a goal to lead two-time defending Class 6A state champion Varela to a 3-1 boys' soccer victory against Coral Reef on Tuesday afternoon. The Vipers improved to 3-0-2.

SIGNINGS

South Dade had two of its baseball players sign with Division I programs this week. Left-handed pitcher Kevin Bryant signed with Florida Gulf Coast University, and catcher Robert Pace signed with St. John's University.

BOYS' SOCCER

• Goleman 8, Norland: Tony Quiroz led the way for the Gators (5-1) with three goals and two assists. Nico Ramirez had three goals and one assist. Fernando Bedoya finished with one goal and three assists.

• Booker T. Washington 5, Westlake Hialeah 0: Neri Martinez played strong defense. Herman Lopez had two goals. Angel McBoyle had one goal. BTW 2-2.

• Coral Park 2, Sunset 1: Raul Ordonez led the Rams (3-3-1) with one goal. Brian Espinosa also had one goal.

• American 1, North Miami Beach 0: Carlos Gomez scored the game-winning goal for the Patriots (3-1-1). Chris Torres also record his first shutout of the season.

• Columbus 1, South Miami 0: Pietro Macchiareli scored the game-winning goal for the Explorers (5-1-1), and Gabi Jaramillo recorded his third shutout of the season.

• Dade Christian 1, Highlands Christian 1: Sean DiPasqule scored for the Crusaders (4-1-1).

• Ronald Reagan 3, Mater Academy 1: Donato Punyed led the Bison (5-0) with two assists and a goal. Micael Aronowicz and Juan Castellanos each added a goal.

• Killian 7, Homestead 0: Carl Lamur led the Cougars (4-0-3) with two goals. Gerardo Castillo had a goal and Felipe Martinez recorded his fourth shut out of the season.

• Pace 3, Archbishop McCarthy 0: Lucas Garcia, Micahael Rosado and Rafael Decastro led the Spartans (3-3) each with a goal.

• Florida Christian 0, LaSalle 0: For the Patriots David Sarabia recorded his fourth shut out of the season. Andew Quintana and James Fernandez both had good games.

• Monday -- Ransom Everglades 3, Palmer Trinity 2: Ned De Leo, Nico Hurtado, Thomas Petricone all scored one goal to lead the Raiders (3-3). Tor Jarret held the Falcons to just two scores.

• Monday -- Archbishop Curley 8, Westland Hialeah 0: Misha Orosz led the Knights (2-0) with three goals. Greg Solano also contributed two goals and two assists. Gaetan Gay scored one goal.

• Monday -- Miami Country Day 2, Dade Christian 1: Patryck Serreira and Tyrone Serraro led the Spartans with one goal each. Axel Halvorssen had one assist.

• Monday -- Killian 4, Southwest 0: Daniel Cortez, Lazaro Gil, and Carl Lamur all scored one goal to lead the Cougars (3-0-3). Felipe Martinez recorded his third shutout of the year.

• Monday -- Belen 1, Mater Academy 0: Andres Sedental led the Wolverines scoring the game winning goal.

• Monday -- Coral Park 2, Braddock 1: Raul Ordonez led the Rams (2-3-1) with a goal and an assist. Luis Malespie had a goal. Lorenzo Padron had an assist.

• Monday -- MAST 3, Hialeah Gardens 0: Carlos Gonzalez led the Mackos (2-0-0) with two goals. Stephan Ortega had a goal and an assist. Lorenzo Vergani played good defense.

• Monday -- Westminster Christian 8, Westwood 0: William Asorio had one goal and two assists. Garrett Teamstra had one goal. Zach Spilius had one goal. WC 5-1.
