Speed proved to be the difference in Boyd Anderson's 47-13 Friday win against visiting Taravella in the Region 3-6A quarterfinal.
Right from the start it was all Boyd Anderson as the Cobras built a 28-0 halftime lead, holding the Trojans to only one first down.
Following a Taravella punt, Boyd Anderson put together an 80-yard scoring drive. With three minutes to go in the first quarter, Cliff Coleman ran 5 yards for a touchdown.
''We're a blue-collar team and we played for four quarters [Friday night],'' said Boyd Anderson coach Mark James, whose team has been to the playoffs the past four years. ``We're taken it one game at a time.''
With 9:24 in the half Andrew Mallory scored his first of two touchdowns on a 20-yard run. Then things fell apart as John Wallace scored quick back-to-back touchdowns. Wright added both extra points.
In the closing minutes of the game, Taravella's offense came alive. Zach Shannon threw 13 yards to Trevor Folino for a touchdown. On the last play of the game, Shannon threw 14 yards to Julian Torpepe for a touchdown.
The Cobras will face Deerfield Beach next Friday in the regional semifinals. Taravella finished the season 5-6.
Monsignor Pace 35, Cardinal Gibbon 21: The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs lost steam in the second half in their Region 4-3A playoff against Monsignor Pace Spartans.
The Chiefs led 14-13 in the first half after a blocked field goal.
Both Pace and Cardinal Gibbons scored on their first drive of the second quarter, but Chiefs took the lead on their second drive after a turnover at the Spartans' 20-yard line.
Dareyon Chance then slithered through the left side for an 11-yard touchdown. The extra point was good and the Chiefs led 14-7 in the first quarter.
The Chiefs quickly answered another Spartan touchdown early in the third quarter when quarterback Chris Schirippa threw a long spiral to Sean Corker for a 30-yard touchdown. The field goal was good and the Chiefs led 21-20 with 8:33 left.

Dade Christian 34, Calvary Christian 28: The Dade Christian Crusaders beat the Calvary Christian Eagles for the second time, but this time their victory assured them a ticket to the Florida High School 1-A regional finals. It was an entertaining playoff matchup at Wooten Field at the Dade Christian Campus. The Eagles scored first on a 13-yard touchdown pass from freshman Javan Shashaty to 6'3 senior Preston Gainey, making the score 6-0.
The Crusaders struck back with a touchdown, setting the tone for a back-and-forth football game.
''We came out a little flat, and they were hitting all cylinders,'' said coach Mike Sonneborn. ``They are a well-coached football team, and it's hard to beat a team twice. They kept the ball out of our hands, but we knew if we could grind it out, we could come away with a victory.''
