West Broward wins 1st volleyball game

Sineidy Cruz had 12 points, four aces and six assists to lead first-year school West Broward to the first volleyball win in school history.

The Bobcats defeated Palm Beach Olympic Heights 25-13, 25-19, 25-19.

Melanie Garcia had seven kills, seven points and Taylor Bonito had 11 points, six aces and eight assists for the Bobcats (1-0).

GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

• Cooper City d. Piper 25-17, 25-9, 25-19: Meaghan Lockwood had 16 points, eight aces and four kills. Ariel Justin had nine points, six aces for the Cowboys (1-0).

• University d. Miami Curley 25-20, 25-17, 25-20: Evalena Behr had seven kills, 19 points and 10 aces. Morgan Barry had 10 kills and three aces. Phebe Moore had eight kills, 13 points and eight aces for the Suns (1-0).

• Plantation d. Miramar 25-23, 25-11, 22-25, 25-11: Jenna Keeler had nine kills, 16 aces and five digs. Tierra Harold had four kills, five aces. Amy Avilla had five kills, three aces and three digs for the Colonels (1-0).

• St. Thomas Aquinas d. Stranahan 25-3, 25-4, 25-6: Brittany Linder had 11 points and four kills. Cassy Congemi had 22 points, eight aces. Lauren Spear had four points and four kills for the Raiders (1-0).

• West Boca d. Coral Glades 25-12, 25-9, 25-16: Taryn Eagdasarian had nine points, two aces. Tessa Conkling had four points, seven assists. Stephanie Saavedra had 10 digs for the Jaguars (0-1).

• Westminster Academy d. Sagemont 25-16, 25-19, 25-8: Anastia Forteled led the Lions (0-1) with eight points, eight digs, and five kills. Pilar Irarrazabal had six kills, five points, and 10 digs. Alexandra Rangel had 19 assists, five points and 10 digs.

• Highlands Christian d. Zion Lutheran 25-15, 25-15, 25-11: Cassie Teuton had 11 service points, three digs and 11 assists to lead the host Knights (1-0). Katelyn Wik had eight service points, two digs, and eight kills. Lexie Grizzle had five service points and 12 digs.

• Deerfield Beach d. Coral Springs Charter 10-25, 25-12, 15-25, 19-25: Callie Mitcham had four service points and six kills, and Brea Mitcham had 12 service points and three digs to lead the Panthers (0-1). Shawna Rodriguez added two service points and two kills.

• Nova d. Western 25-18, 25-17, 25-15: Rosa Viera had 12 kills, four points. Cristy Brinson had 25 assists, 10 points and four aces. Monica Mancilla had 10 digs, six points for the Titans (1-0).

• Coral Springs d. Flanagan 25-5, 26-24, 27-25: The Falcons fell in their season opener.

• Cardinal Gibbons d. Boyton Beach 25-3, 25-5, 25-6: Jessica Wynn led the Chiefs (1-0) with 10 kills and two blocks. Courtney Buchanan added 18 points, three aces, and three kills. Kayley McLaughlin had 10 assists, 10 points, and three aces.
