Southridge's dream season came to a nightmarish end Friday night in a 25-23 loss to South Dade in a Region 4-6A semifinal at Harris Field.
South Dade avenged a loss to 26-20 loss to Southridge earlier this season.
``This was a great win over a good team,'' South Dade coach Greg Dentino said. ``We didnt have a chip on our shoulder or anything of that sort. We just wanted to play our game and leave it all out on the field.''
South Dade, making its first semifinal appearance in four years, broke ahead early behind two rushing touchdowns by sophomore running back Torry Clayton. On the first offensive drive, Clayton carried the ball three times, including a 3-yard touchdown run up the middle to put South Dade ahead 7-0.
On the ensuing South Dade possession, quarterback Jovani McCray was sacked in the end zone by Antwon Wilson for a safety. McCray finished with 22 completions for 162 yards.
``This was the kind of game we talked about playing,'' South Dade's J.J. Worton said. ``We were left with a real sour taste after the loss to them earlier in the season. Tonight was payback.''
Worton was the key to South Dade's success. He caught seven passes for 125 yards and also ran in a two-point conversion. He also kicked a 24 yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
``This is what I've done all season,'' Worton said. ``I haven't gotten a lot of looks from colleges, but I hope what I did shows that I can play against anyone.''
Southridge (10-1) showed signs of life in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of two converted fourth downs to put together a drive that ended when Michael Aguilera missed a 36-yard field-goal attempt with 2:13 remaining.
``We were a team that couldnt get things right early on,'' Dentino said to his team. ``Now we are the team playing for the regional title and they are the team with one loss.''
After the game, a benches clearing brawl ensued between the teams in one of the end zones.
South Dade (10-2) next will play Central on Dec. 4 in the Region 4-6A final at a site to be determined.
Region 4-2A semifinal -- Belle Glade Glades Central 46, American Heritage 20: Belle Glade has never been a kind place to Miami-Dade or Broward teams, and American Heritage got another dose of that as the top-ranked team in Class 2A ended its season.
Despite out-first downing Glades 9-7 in the first half, Heritage fell victim to the big play as Raiders quarterback Leron Thomas tossed three touchdown passes of 68, 65 and 93 yards to stake his team to a 20-8 halftime lead.
Gregory Dent was on the receiving end of the first and third score, the 93 yarder a wild play as Heritage defensive back Julien David actually appeared to have an interception only to tip the ball up in the air to Dent who was behind everyone and sprinted the remaining 70 yards for the score.
Eight-grade sensation Sony Michel was, for the most part held in check by the quick Glades Central's defense with just 90 yards on 26 carries.

Region 4-2B final -- Chaminade 35, North Broward Prep 18: Quarterback Jerrard Randall ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 112 yards and two more touchdowns as Chaminade defeated host North Broward Prep 35-18 in a Region 4-2B semifinal Friday night.
``I never put pressure on myself,'' Randall said. ``Because then I'm putting pressure on my teammates. I just come to play. When I come to play them come to play.''
Randall scored on a 79-yard run late in the first half to give the undefeated Lions (12-0) a 13-3 lead.
In the second half Randall threw a 37-yard touchdown to Kurt Evans -- the second touchdown pass play for the tandem -- as Chaminade built a 21-3 lead.
Ahead 21-10, Randall sealed the win with a 8:38 remaining on a 73-yard touchdown run.
Chaminade's Johnathan Aiken blocked two field goals.
