Parkway Academy forfeits playoff spot amid investigation

The undefeated Parkway Academy football team has vacated its spot in the Class 1A playoffs.

Last week it was reported that the Florida High School Athletic Association was investigating the school for the alleged use of an ineligible player.

A representative of the Greater Miami Athletic Conference Officials Association told The Miami Herald late Thursday night that the crew assigned to officiate Parkway's Region 4-1A semifinal game against Calvary Christian on Friday night at Boyd Anderson was told not to go to the game because it had been canceled.

When contacted by phone Thursday, neither Parkway Academy coach Anthony Harris nor Calvary Christian coach Jason Kaiser had heard the game had been canceled.

``As far as I know we're playing [Friday] night at 7:30,'' Harris said. ``Be there and watch Parkway at work.''

But late Thursday night, the FHSAA's playoff bracket showed Calvary Christian advancing to the regional finals, and Parkway's name removed.

FHSAA Coordinator of Media Relations and Marketing Cristina Alvarez told The Miami Herald that Parkway can appeal the decision, however.

The Panthers entered the playoffs as the District 8-1A champions with a 9-0 record. Parkway won every regular-season game by 16 points or more.
