Longtime tennis coach Mike Kypriss has coached and watched plenty of talented athletes during his near three decades coaching in Miami-Dade County. Few have impressed him as much as Krop's Brittany Dubins.

On Monday morning with friends and family around her, Dubins signed a letter of intent to play tennis for the University of Miami.

``You always hope you'd have a person with the perfect combination of athletics and academics,'' said Kypriss, who retired from coaching last year to become athletic director at Krop. ``I've never seen a girl that has more of that male or female than Brittany.''

Dubins, a state champion in tennis, recently helped the Lightning girls' volleyball team advance to its third consecutive regional final. Dubins is also a starter on the Krop soccer team and has a 4.7 GPA.

``It's a great school with a great reputation,'' Dubins said.
