The name Devon Wright and shutdown are not words that have been used often, but thats exactly what happened Friday night as Northeast shut down Wright and in turn beat Taravella 23-6 to inch closer to its first playoff berth since 1995.
If Deerfield Beach beats Douglas Saturday, the journey will be complete and Northeast (4-5, 2-1) will be the District 9-6A runner-up. If Douglas pulls the upset, there will be a three-way tie and a tiebreaker will need to be played Monday at a site to be determined.
``It's a big win for us, the guys really worked hard, they deserve it and we have to get ready for whats to come,'' Northeast coach Donnell Bennett said. ``It means a lot, not just for me, but the school and the kids.''
On Friday, it was a defensive mastery of Taravella's Wing-T offense that stuffed Wright for only 69 yards on 19 carries before he left the game late in the third quarter with a right ankle injury. His status for the Trojans (3-6, 0-3) season finale is still unknown.
Nova 36, McArthur 26: Dondetrick Barnes ran for four touchdowns to lead Nova over McArthur in a District 16-5A game. Michael Flood added a touchdown pass for Nova (2-7, 1-2).
Terry Brownlee ran for two touchdowns for McArthur (4-5, 0-3) and Javon Smith had a touchdown pass to Jovan Murphy.

Delray Beach American Heritage 45, Calvary Christian 21: Greg Bryant, Darius Millines and James Potts each ran for more than 100 yards each as Delray Beach American Heritage won the District 7-1A title with the victory in Fort Lauderdale.
The Stallions (6-3, 5-0 district) won their sixth in a row, and Calvary (6-3, 4-1 district) dropped its second consecutive game, but still made the playoffs as the district runner-up.
Down 28-14, Calvary's Daniel Hendershaw recovered the onside kick to start the second half. The Eagles took advantage, scoring quickly on a 51-yard pass play from Javen Shashaty to Kyle Whitley -- with a key block by Greg Maybin, cutting the deficit to seven.
Heritage responded with a 29-yard field goal by Justin Haig and a 25-yard TD run by Potts to put the game out of reach late in the third quarter.

Pahokee 33, University School 0: The Blue Devils clinched a playoff berth to cap a tumultuous week for the program. After having to forfeit two games from earlier in the year, the Blue Devils needed to win or otherwise be eliminated from the playoffs.
``It's a testament to these kids,'' Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson said. ``It was a huge win for us.''
The scoring started early in the first quarter when the explosive Chris Dunkley took a botched punt 32 yards for the score.
