The top tennis players from Krop and Gulliver had enough energy left to bring more state championships to Miami-Dade County on Friday morning.
The Raiders pulled another championship sweep at Red Bug Lake Park in Casselberry when senior Chris Jackman and junior Sarah McLean won the boys' and girls' overall singles state titles respectively.
And Billy Federhofer added the missing component to Krop's already rich tennis tradition when he became the school's first overall singles champion. Federhofer defeated Lake Worth Park Vista's Harold Williams, 6-2, 6-2 in the final at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.
Federhofer overcame the brutal heat Thursday to lead Krop to its third boys' team title in four years, but was forced to retire from the doubles, along with teammate Mark Schanerman.
''I asked coach if he was sure because I couldn't believe we didn't have one before,'' Federhofer said. ``I can't even describe how sore I was, but I wanted this real bad.''
Krop's tandem of Brittany Dubins and Sonya Latycheva, who helped the Lightning win its third consecutive team title Thursday, won the overall girls' doubles' title by beating Parkland Douglas' Stephanie Cardullo and Ariel Holness, 6-1, 6-2.
Jackman also secured the first singles' title of his career, avenging an earlier loss to North Broward Prep's Chris Janssen, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-1. Jackman then joined teammate Raleigh Smith to capture the overall doubles championship, and complete a historic week for the Gulliver boys.
''I remember last night I wanted to win this so badly,'' Jackman said. ``I fell behind early, but I kept taking it a point at a time and finished my career the way I always dreamed I would.''
In the doubles, Jackman and Smith made sure Gulliver remained perfect for the tournament, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) against Janssen and teammate Jason Berry. The victories gave Gulliver players 23 wins in 23 matches for the week.
McLean didn't even expect to compete in the singles tournament a month ago. But after a knee injury to Gulliver girls' No. 1 player Jessica Linero, Gulliver coach Kelly Mulligan moved McLean up to the top spot.
McLean hasn't let her down, winning at districts, and winning the individual singles bracket. On Friday, McLean dominated Gulf Breeze's Jacqueline Kasler, 6-0, 6-3 in the overall final. McLean lost in the individual doubles' final, however, with teammate Katie Mark in their match against Pine Crest's Leah Fried and Lindsay Graff.
Miami High's Zulema Zelaya, who won the individual singles title Thursday, took an early lead in her match against Port Orange Spruce Creek's Corey Love. Zelaya won the first set, but Love rallied to beat her 7-5 in the second set after Zelaya had taken a 5-4 edge. Love won the third set 6-2 and secured the overall singles title.

District 15-6A final -- Columbus 9, Ferguson 0: Columbus pitcher Andres Perez-Lobo fired a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to lead the host Explorers past Ferguson 9-0 and reclaim the District 15-6A title.
We are playing our best baseball right now and other than one inning during the GMAC tournament, we've been solid, Columbus coach Joe Weber said of his team's recent performance. Getting our third hitter [Justin Gonzalez] back from injury also helps.
Gonzalez had three hits as the Explorers belted out 10 on the evening.
''Justin just does something to our lineup that allows us to gel better,'' Weber said.
