Two top Broward football recruits commit to USF

The University of South Florida landed two of the top recruits in Broward County over the weekend when it received commitments from Hallandale quarterback Victor Marc and cornerback Ricardo Dixon.
USF also received a commitment from former Miami Dr. Krop receiver James Green, who transferred to Tallahasee Leon this spring.
Marc, Green and Dixon, who were all teammates at Krop last fall, drove to USF with their parents and family members Friday to see the campus and then participated in the Bulls' one-day camp Saturday. Dixon said it was during drills Saturday when the trio decided they wanted to reunite in college.
''I know for all of it was a deal of us going to school together,'' said Dixon, a 5-11, 171-pound cornerback who is rated the fifth-best prospect in Broward by The Miami Herald. ``The campus blew us away. The dorms were really big. The facilities were amazing. We were feeling it.''
Marc, rated the 16th-best prospect in Broward, said it wasn't solely a football decision.
''I was leaning toward South Florida in a way to begin with,'' Marc said. ``Once my parents got to go up there and see it, it just felt like the right thing to do.''
Marc (6-0, 215) is a player who could ultimately switch to defensive back in college. But he said part of the reason he committed to South Florida was because the Bulls plan on letting try his hand at quarterback. They did so Saturday.
''They definitely are letting me choose my options and see what I can do at quarterback first,'' Marc said. ``Other schools are just recruiting me to go there as an athlete. South Florida proved they really care about what's important to me. I did all the workouts at quarterback in the camp. I played cornerback for a little bit. But they told me I'd get a real chance at quarterback.''
Both players said they still plan on taking visits to other schools, but were impressed enough for now to give the Bulls a commitment. Marc still has West Virginia, South Carolina, Clemson, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Alabama chasing him. South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, Clemson are still after Dixon.
It might only be the third week of June, but already a collection of some of the top recruits in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County have committed to schools.
St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Duron Carter, the son of famed former Vikings and Dolphins receiver Cris Carter, announced Friday he would attend his dad's alma mater Ohio State.
Other curret local commitments include: American defensive end Olivier Vernon (Miami), South Dade defensive end Ed Stinson (Florida State), Piper running back DeShaun Sands (Kansas), Northwestern running back Daquan Hargrett (West Virginia), Pahokee receiver Nu'Keese Richardson (Florida), Archbishop Carroll cornerback Corey Ammons (Central Florida).
