Belen swimming: The Wolverines captured their third consecutive Class 2A state championship Saturday. Sophomore Carlos Omana won the 200-yard individual medley and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke. The Wolverines won both relays that qualified for the meet.
TOP PERFORMERS
Gideon Ajagbe, Ransom Everglades, football: Ajagbe had 215 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns in a 39-29 win against Archbishop Curley.
Eddie Hernandez, Mater Academy, football: Hernandez completed 10 of 16 passes for 212 and three touchdowns in a 32-21 loss against Gulliver.
Lafredo Brady, South Dade, football: Brady had three catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns in a 43-14 loss against Norland.
Paulina Prieto, Palmer Trinity, girls' volleyball: Prieto had a team high 11-kills in a 25-12, 25-11, 22-25, 25-21 in a Region 4-2A final win against Calvary Christian.
Carrie Comendeiro, Palmetto, girls' volleyball: Comendeiro had nine blocks and 12 kills in a 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22 Region 4-6A final win against Krop.
Cristina Abreu, Florida Christian, girls' volleyball: Abreu had 15 kills, eight points and five digs to lead the Patriots to a 25-12, 25-21, 27-29, 25-17 Region 4-3A win against North Broward Prep.
Michael Saco, Palmetto, boys' swimming: Saco won the 50 and the 100 freestyle events at the Class 3A FHASSA state meet.
Ana Anaya, Ferguson, girls' swimming: Anaya placed second in the 100 butterfly at the FHSSAA Class 3A state meet.
Andrew Koff, Gulliver, boys' bowling: Koff was runner-up to University's Matthew Dodson in the final match of the state tournament, losing 2-1.
Jonathan Lima, Ferguson, boys' soccer: Lima scored three goals in a 6-0 win against Coral Park.
Monica Lozano, Mater Academy, girls' soccer: Lozano had a combined 10 goals and two assists in three wins. The Lions beat Miami Beach 5-1, Edison 3-0 and Westwood Christian 8-0.
Armando Del Valle, Columbus, boys' cross-country: Del Valle won the Region 4-4A title with a time of 16:36.00.
Alessandra Valdez, Lourdes, girls' cross-country: Valdez won the Region 4-4A title with a time of 19:29.02.
