Miami-Dade high schools top performers of the week
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Killian, football: The Cougars beat North Miami Beach 35-20, Thursday night at North Miami Stadium. Killian's offense was led by running back Lamar Miller. Miller racked up 227 yards on 25 carries and finished with three touchdowns. The Cougars' defense shut down the Chargers rushing attack limiting North Miami Beach to 33 total rushing yards.
TOP PERFORMERS
Torrance Moise, Booker T. Washington, football: Moise led the Tornados from a 25-point deficit to beat Central 44-39 Friday night at Traz Powell. Moise carried Booker T.'s offense, finishing the game with 272 passing yards with three touchdowns. Moise also ran for 43 yards and two touchdowns. With the win the Tornados preserve their five-year winning streak against teams from Dade county.
Justin Novak, Coral Park, football: The quarterback led the Rams to a 27-6 win against Reagan. Novak finished the game going 10 for 19 with 207 and two touchdowns. Rams wide receiver Jesus Alvarez caught four passes for a 106 yards and both of Novak's touchdowns.
Miriam de Leon, Southwest, girls' volleyball: De Leon led the Eagles to a 20-25, 25-16, 15-18, 25-20 win against Sunset. De Leon contributed five aces, 14 kills and 13 digs.
Jesyca Schiffman and Stephanie Toledo, Krop, girls' volleyball: Schiffman and Toledo led Krop to a first-place finish at OVA Invitational in Orlando. In the championship match the Lightening defeated Palm Bay 25-20, 25-14. Schiffman had 16 assists and a kill, and Toledo added eight kills and two aces.
Derrick Wilcox, Columbus, boys' golf: Wilcox led the Explorers to 300-303 win against rival Palmetto. Wilcox finished tied second overall with a 71.
Alexandra Perez, Carrollton, girls' golf: Perez led Carrollton to a 184-195 win against Gulliver. Perez finished tied for the top individual score, shooting a six-over par 41.
Carlos Blandon and Jason Miranda, Miami Beach, boys' swimming: Blandon won the 200 freestyle and Miranda won the 500 free in a 91-76 dual-meet win against Goleman.
Morgan Markmen, Krop, girls' swimming: Markmen won the 50 free and the 100 back in a 113-58 dual meet win against American.
Treymon Ellis, Coral Reef, boys' bowling: The seniors bowled a high game of 221 and a high series of 664.
Megan Hopper, Palmetto girls' bowling: The junior bowled a high game 176 and a high series of 529.
