After a seven-week prelude, the second season for Monsignor Pace started Friday night as the Spartans defeated district rival LaSalle 31-6.
``We never looked ahead of LaSalle to next week's game, but it was definitely in the back of my mind,'' Pace coach Alvin Slaughter said of his team's matchup with Gulliver next Friday night. ``We need to keep control of the ball, as we did tonight, to come out with a win.''
For the Spartans, University of Miami commit Stephen Morris completed 8 of 18 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, Pace used a running back by committee arsenal, led by William Bodden and Jabari Gorman.
Bodden totaled 54 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown, and Gorman rushed for 47 yards on just two carries and also scored.

Jackson 24, Ferguson 11: Special teams and big plays helped Jackson bounce back from last week's loss to Booker T. Washington.
Special teams set the pace at the beginning of the game by placing Jackson (6-2, 1-1) inside the Falcon 35 three times thanks to two kickoff returns by Deandre Jasper and blocked punt.
Deandre Jasper was played a big role on offense as he caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Demetrius Whitehead. Robenson Therezie (five carries, 67 yards, one touchdown) and Terronce Robbins 11 carries, 68 yards) led Jackson on the ground.

Barringon Christian 56, Berean Christian 0: Barrington Christian might be flying under the radar, but it won't be long until the talented Falcons squad starts getting some recognition.
The football program is in its rookie season, but the Falcons picked up a blowout victory at Bel Aire Park.
Barrington fields a small team, just 24 players deep, but the Falcons had several players contribute in the victory. Six different players scored in a game played with the running clock.
Perhaps one of the most talented athletes on the field is Khalil Render, an eighth-grader. Render completed 10 of 11 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns.
