Coming into Friday's game, Dr. Krop had never beaten neighborhood and district rival North Miami Beach.
But with its playoff hopes on the line, Krop made history and defeated North Miami Beach 23-6 at North Miami Stadium in front of 1,500 fans.
Krop (4-4, 3-1 District 12-6A) controls its own destiny to claim a playoff spot, and North Miami Beach (3-6, 1-4) is officially eliminated.
Three teams remain in the hunt for the final spot: Krop, North Miami and American. Krop will play North Miami (3-5, 2-2) next Friday, and American (4-4, 2-2) will host district champion Carol City next week. If Krop is victorious, it will be crowned district runner-up and make its first playoff appearance in nine years. If it loses to North Miami and American defeats Carol City, there will be a three-way tie for second place.
``This feels good. We needed to win this game for more than one reason,'' said Lightning coach David Hudson said. ``We knew coming in that [North Miami Beach] was going to fight hard, but we had to dig deep and come up with something special. Our kids made big plays and we made history for the school and kept ourselves in the playoff hunt.''
Coral Gables 48, Coral Park 0: The Cavaliers (4-4, 3-1) defeated the Rams (0-8, 0-4) at Tropical Park.
Running back Jarvis Bridge led the Coral Gables offense with 198 yards rushing on 12 attempts and three touchdown runs of 2, 38, and 60 yards.
Quarterback Patrick McCain threw for three touchdown passes, two of which were to wide receiver Andre Gutierrez. The shutout was the first for Coral Gables this season.
Sophomore quarterback Quincy Mosqueda led the Rams with 110 yards rushing on 27 carries.

Gulliver Prep 38, Somerset 12: With the win, the Raiders (5-1, 5-2) are in position to win the district title if they beat Pace next week.
Somerset is 2-4, 2-6.
``We are getting ready for Pace,'' Coach Earl Sims said. ``We are preparing.''
Cedric Walker's 45-yard punt return to the Somerset 10-yard line set up the Raiders' first score, a 3-yard run up the middle by Daryl Chestnutt with 4:15 in the first quarter. Quarterback Michael Strauss missed on the two-point try.
Gulliver extended its lead on the last play of the quarter when Strauss rolled to his left and threw 35 yards across the middle to Max Grigio. Strauss hooked up again with Grigio for the two-point conversion.
