    Coral Gables makes playoffs

    For the fourth year in a row, Coral Gables is heading to the playoffs -- and hoping for a different outcome.

    Jarvis Bridge rushed for 225 yards, Patrick McCain threw for 108 and the Cavaliers clinched the second seed in District 14-6A with a 31-14 victory over South Miami Saturday night at Tropical Park.

    Central breezes, but big games await

    Despite big games in the next two weeks against Booker T. Washington in the regular season finale and Columbus in the first round of the playoffs, Miami Central had no problem staying focused on the task at hand Saturday night at Milander Stadium. And that was making quick work of Hialeah-Miami Lakes as the Rockets won easily 52-6 after blowing out to a 38-0 halftime lead. The game was played with a running clock in the second half.

    Lightning gets playoff berth

    Krop High School has had success in numerous sports since its inception in 1997.

    Winning seasons in football, however, have been scarce.

    The Lightning took a big step toward changing that trend Thursday night at North Miami Stadium when it beat North Miami 23-10 to clinch its first postseason berth since 2001 -- the only other time it made it to the playoffs.

    Gulliver swimmer captures two events

    Gulliver Prep's Clara Smiddy won the 200-individual medley and the 100-freestyle at the Region 4-A championship meet on Thursday at Nova Southeastern University.
