TEAM OF THE WEEK
Trailing longtime rival Dillard 8-7, the top-ranked football team in the nation scored 42 unanswered points and coasted to a 49-8 victory in a Class 5A regional semifinal. Giovani Bernard and Ryan Becker carried the offense for the reigning 5A state champions. Bernard's 65-yard touchdown run put the Raiders (12-0) ahead for good 14-8 and set the tone for his 122-yard, two-touchdown night. Becker finished 10 of 14 with four touchdowns, including two to Duron Carter.
TOP PERFORMERS
Eugene Smith, Miramar football: Smith continued his late-game heroics with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Dante Chambers with three seconds left as the Patriots rallied for a 34-29 victory over Cypress Bay in a 6A regional semifinal.
Denard Robinson, Deerfield Beach football: Robinson ran for a touchdown and threw for four as the Bucks gained revenge with a 55-22 victory over Boyd Anderson.
Jelani Hewitt, Northeast basketball: Hewitt had a career-high and Broward season-best 50 points in win over West Broward.
Erica Wheeler, Parkway. Wheeler had a game-high 31 points for the reigning 3A state champion in a 53-47 win over Titusville Astronaut.
Khyle Marshall, Flanagan basketball: Marshall had 30 points and 19 rebounds as Flanagan beat Hollywood Hills.
Dawnn Maye, Dillard basketball: Maye had 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a 69-42 victory over Boynton Beach.
Joanna Harden, Blanche Ely basketball. Harden had a game-high 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in a 57-39 win over Miramar.
Ryan Davis, Pines Charter cross-country: Broward's top-ranked runner clocked a career-best 15:53 and finished fifth at the 3A state finals.
Mariana Lucena, Cypress Bay cross-country: Lucena finished in a career-best 18:15 and placed second at the Class 4A state finals.
Nicole Suarez, St. Thomas Aquinas cross-country: Suarez finished in a career-best 18:42 and placed seventh at the Class 3A state finals.
Brandon Knight, Pine Crest basketball: Knight had a game-high 36 points in a 76-62 victory over Northeast.
Kenny Boynton Jr., American Heritage basketball: Boynton had 42 points, eight rebounds and six assists in an 86-69 victory over Oldsmar Christian.
Gafari Dillon, Chaminade soccer: Dillon had both goals in a victory over Gulliver Prep.
Francesca Caravello, Taravella soccer: Caravello had both goals in a victory over Cooper City.
