Boynton, Knight impress coaches

Nationally ranked guards Kenny Boynton Jr. and Brandon Knight impressed many top college coaches at the Reebok All-American Camp at Philadelphia University last week.

Boynton, a Plantation American Heritage senior-to-be ranked No. 3 in his class by ESPN, and Knight, who will enter his junior year at Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest ranked No. 1 in his class by some scouting services, took turns impressing the audience.

Among the crowd were representatives from Duke and United States men's Olympic coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, Louisville's Rick Pitino and Florida's Billy Donovan.

The five-day showcase featured 151 of the nation's top players.

Boynton, a 6-2 shooting guard who has scholarship offers from Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech, Texas, Memphis and Florida State, to name a few, earned the camp's top player award and upperclassman MVP honors.

He locked up the awards after hitting a three-pointer with 3.6 seconds left to give Team Allen Iverson a 92-89 victory against Team Official HexRide and averaging 15.5 points through the first four games.

The 6-3 Knight had his moments also, highlighted by a number of high-flying dunks and deft passes that have made him one of the top lead guard prospects in the nation.

FISHING

Mike Nichols of Islamorada caught a 33.65-pound dolphin Friday to vault his Cajun Queen team to first place at the Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament, which ends Saturday in the Florida Keys.

Nichols' dolphin, combined with a blue marlin released by teammate Trey Myers of Fort Myers on Thursday, the first day of the three-day angling competition, put Cajun Queen at the top of the 50-boat leaderboard.

Greg Eklund is the boat's skipper.

Six boats, with one blue marlin release each, are tied for second -- including Risky Business, owned by Danny Coll of Big Pine Key, the only boat that reported a marlin release Friday.

Robert Beck of Plant City caught a 73.3-pound wahoo Friday while fishing on the Outer Limits, captained by Bennett Taylor.

The catch, combined with a sailfish release, put the Outer Limits team at the top of the Fun Fish Division.

The tournament is being staged in conjunction with Key West's annual Hemingway Days festival.
