Plantation makes playoffs with victory

The Plantation football team did it the hard way, but the Colonels got it done, knocking off rival South Plantation 6-0 in a tiebreaker for second place Monday night at PAL Field.
The Colonels will travel to Deerfield Beach for a first-round playoff game Nov. 21.
Monday night's tiebreaker could have been avoided had Plantation beaten South Plantation last Friday night, but the Paladins dominated their archrival 20-7 to force the three-way tie for second with Western and Plantation.
In the end though, it was Plantation's ability to make a couple of big plays on offense and a big sack on defense that proved to be the difference.
Facing a 2nd-and-10 from their own 15, Plantation quarterback Imonni Carswell hit Travis Holland down the seam for a 44-yard completion.
Seven plays later it was the same combination connecting on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 3:05 to play.
Carswell was 3 for 5 for 72 yards with all three going to Holland.
South Plantation had one last chance and reached its own 41-yard line following a completion on 4th-and-5 from Johnny Marshall to Robbie Anderson, but a play later, Plantation defensive end Ryan Shazier sacked Marshall for an 8-yard loss that ended the Paladins threat.
``We were fortunate to have a couple of big plays, our defense played phenomenal. We are in the playoffs for the second year in a row. Just playing a team two days ago, we are familiar with what each other was doing. Our kids came out, offense played a lot better,'' Plantation coach Steve Davis said. ``Luckily enough we were able to exploit their Cover 2 up the middle and hit on a couple of passes.''
South Plantation advanced to play Plantation by beating Western 8-0 with a 1-yard touchdown by Marshall with under a minute to play.
Neither team was able to generate much offense and it seemed destined for a Kansas tiebreaker, but Western quarterback Tyler Rue was intercepted by Boaz Joseph with 1:28 to play at the Paladins 43-yard line.
Marshall connected with Anderson on a beautiful 37-yard pass where Anderson jumped over two Western defenders to pull the ball down at the Western 20.
Anderson then caught an eight-yard and 11-yard pass setting up Marshall's touchdown.
