With the game, the Mayor's Cup and its playoff hopes on the line, South Plantation turned to a senior leader to get the job done.
The Paladins (6-4, 2-2 District 10-6A) put the ball in the sure hands of Meshach Waite and he delivered, rushing for 59 of his team-high 83 yards on the final drive of the game and sealing the 20-7 win with a 38-yard rumble into the end zone Friday.
With the win, South Plantation creates a three-way tie for second place in district 10-6A, as Plantation, Western, and South Plantation each have a district record of 2-2. The tiebreaker game will likely be held Monday.
South Plantation coach Rich Maresco said that he wasn't going to give the ball to anyone else but Waite.
``He is such a load to bring down, he just runs people over,'' Davis said of the 6-0, 240-pound Waite. ``He's one of senior leaders, and I had complete confidence that he would get the job done.''
Plantation (6-3, 2-2), which had won its past four games, could never seem to get in rhythm offensively, losing three fumbles and only totaling 157 total yards of offense.
Miramar 14, Boyd Anderson 6: Ryan Williams fired second-half touchdown passes to Denzel McCullum and Malcolm Lewis, as the Patriots (8-1) stormed back after trailing at halftime.
Behind 6-0 at the break, the Patriots took command with a 50-yard touchdown march on the first possession of the second half to tie it on Williams' 9-yard strike to McCullum.
After a celebration penalty backed up the extra point, Julian Garcia kicked it through from 35 yards out to put Miramar in front for good 7-6.
Lewis later pulled in a 7-yard TD pass from Williams late in the third quarter. Williams wound up throwing for 129 yards, completing 11 of 24 passes with an interception. Jeremiah Hicks added 86 yards rushing on 22 carries.
It marked the third consecutive game that Miramar had overcome a sluggish start to take care of business in the second half. The Patriots held BA to just 47 yards after halftime -- 16 coming on the Cobras' third-from-last offensive snap.
``No adjustments,'' Patriots coach Damon Cogdell said. ``We just told the guys to step up, buckle up their chinstraps and play like you know you can play. It's all mental.''
Boyd Anderson (5-4) had grabbed its 6-0 lead with 10 seconds left before halftime on Craig Weaver's 9-yard TD pass to Courtney Bynes.

Western 20, Piper 6: Western's win coupled with South Plantation's 20-7 victory over Plantation moved the Wildcats into a three-way District 10-6A tiebreaker for the runner spot. A tough defense and a big third quarter kept Western's playoff hopes alive and raised the Wildcats record to 2-2, 5-4. Piper fell to 0-4, 3-6 and is eliminated from the playoffs.
With 9:18 in the first quarter, Chris Shelvin put Western up 3-0 on a 35-yard field goal that was set up by Matt Schoolden's fumble recovery at the Piper 30-yard line. After Nevin Lawson's 15-yard touchdown and a missed extra point, Western came back and tied the game 6-6 on Shelvin's 19-yard field goal on the last play of the first half.

Coconut Creek 6, Coral Glades 3: The Cougars (4-5, 4-0) captured the district 15-5A title with the victory against the Jaguars (3-6, 2-2).
Tied at 3-3 in overtime, Coral Glades was able to move the ball to the 5-yard line, but the Jaguars kick went wide right.
Coconut Creek after not being able to gain any yards, put the hopes of a district title on the foot of Jorge Rubio and delivered a game-winning 28-yard field goal. The Cougars will host South Broward in the first round of the 5A playoffs in two weeks.
