TEAMS OF THE WEEK
The Central boys’ basketball team won the GMAC championship with impressive wins over Miami High, Miami Norland and Miami Beach. Guard Phillip Saunders had 53 points and 19 rebounds for the tournament.
The South Dade wrestling team won its sixth consecutive GMAC championship led by undefeated champions Justin Ramirez and Patricio Lugo.

Zachary Brown, Miami Beach, boys’ basketball: Brown had 24 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocks to lead the Hi-Tides to a 68-58 win over Southridge and a berth in the GMAC tournament final.
Chad Masin, Hebrew Academy, boys’ basketball: Masin averaged 32 points, 7.5 assists and 8.5 rebounds per game last week against Archbishop McCarthy and Hillel.
Annie Osceola and Giolibeth Perez, Ferguson, girls’ basketball: Osceola and Perez combined for 25 points and 14 assists to lead the Falcons to a 40-29 win over Lourdes and the school’s first district championship.
Nicole Jimenez, Florida Christian, girls’ basketball: Jimenez had 34 points, eight assists and 12 steals to lead the Patriots to wins over St. Brendan and Gulliver and the District 16-4A championship.
Kyle Mann, Columbus, wrestling: Mann continued his unbeaten season with an individual GMAC championship at 220 pounds.
Franco Valdes, Southwest, wrestling: Valdes defeated South Dade’s Ozzy Lugo in a tough 3-2 decision to win the GMAC 126-pound championship.
Gian Artuso, Varela, boys’ soccer: Artuso had a goal and the winning penalty kick in a shootout win over Reagan in a Region 4-5A quarterfinal.
Andy Alvarez, Gulliver, boys’ soccer: Alvarez had two goals and three assists in a 6-1 win over Ransom in the Region 4-2A quarterfinals.
Amanda Martin, Miami Country Day, girls’ soccer: Martin had three goals to lead the Spartans to the Class 1A state final four.
