Northwestern forced a three-team tiebreaker for the runner-up playoff spot in District 16-6A with a 17-7 win against Homestead on Saturday night at Harris Field.
The tiebreaker with Carol City and Norland will be played at 7 p.m. Monday night at Traz Powell Stadium.
“Our goal was to have a shot at the playoffs and we were able to pull it off tonight,” Northwestern coach Eddie Brown said. “We just have to get ready for Monday. I’m very proud of my guys.”
Freshman quarterback Chatarius Atwell completed 14 of 21 passes 197 yards and ran in a 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that made it a two-possession game late.
Corey Lane ran for 94 yards on 24 carries and scored a first-quarter 1-yard touchdown to put the Bulls (5-4, 2-2) ahead at the start. Northwestern (5-4, 2-2) forced four turnovers — two interceptions and two fumble recoveries — and had six sacks.
Prince Cowart ran in a four-yard touchdown in the second quarter for the lone score for Homestead (3-6, 0-4).
