After a disappointing two weeks that saw it lose back-to-back key district showdowns and get eliminated from playoff contention, Ronald Reagan got back on the winning track, cruising to the 24-0 shutout win over Hialeah Gardens in a District 13-8A contest at Gardens.
The victory moved the Bison to 6-3, 3-2 and clinched their second winning season in the past three years while the Gladiators fell to 3-6, 1-3.
Reagan scored twice in the first half, on a 12-yard scoring pass from Tyler Ibarra to Gonzalo Pirela in the first quarter and a 21-yard scoop-and-score fumble return by Shawn Curtis midway through the second.
Freshman quarterback Hector Vargas took Reagan’s opening second-half possession right down the field and hit Diego Mendoza with a 30-yard scoring pass to make it 21-0.
Never miss a local story.
The Reagan defense pitched the shutout, holding Gardens to just 88 yards of total offense and six first downs.
