Miami Norland (2-0) held on for a 12-8 victory over Homestead (1-2) in the District 16-6A opener at North Miami Stadium on Friday night.
Norland’s defense dominated Homestead all night and came up huge when it mattered most.
Homestead had first-and-10 on Norland’s 12-yard line with less than two minutes to go, but the Broncos failed to advance the ball on four consecutive plays. Senior Elliot Miller broke up backup quarterback Prince Cowart’s throw in the right corner of the end zone on fourth down, sealing the win for the Vikings.
Never miss a local story.
Norland junior quarterback Rodrick Robinson scored the lone touchdown of the game with a 9-yard run with 5:39 left to give the Vikings the lead.
Senior Rayshad Jackson led the Vikings with four sacks, including two on the opening series. Senior and Ohio State commit Carlton Davis had a leaping interception of senior quarterback Sean Reddick near the end of the first half.
Reddick left the game with a hip injury at halftime.
