Southwest edges Mourning in baseball

Marcell Diaz outdueled Kevin Moreno to lead the Southwest baseball team over Mourning 3-2 on Tuesday.

Marcos Pedreida also pitched two innings for the Eagles and had four strikeouts.

Alfredo Morejon was a perfect 2 for 2 with an RBI double, and Andres Feltes recorded the save for Southwest (2-3).

BASEBALL

South Dade junior Gorordo pitched five innings and struck out seven batters in a 4-2 victory over Varela.

Salvi Finocchiaro came in to relieve Gorordo and pitched two innings, struck out three batters and recorded the save.

Danny Vaughan went 1 for 3 with two RBI for the Buccaneers.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Columbus dominated Miami Country Day’s defense with 19 goals.

Danny Rancano and Alec Carreras each scored four goals for the Explorers. Michael Bulnes, Kyle Glaser and Cody Brais scored two apiece.

Five other Columbus players netted a goal.

For Miami Country Day, Austin Weinberg scored two goals, and Jordan Karp scored once. Goalie Paul Julian Girard recorded 10 saves.

Melanie Isaza struck out five Hialeah-Miami Lakes batters on her way to a victory as Reagan defeated HML 17-2.

Isaza contributed at the plate, too, going 3 for 4.

Karina Rubio erupted offensively, going 2 for 4 with game-high five RBI.

Gabriella Rodriguez went 1 for 1, and Lella Belen went 2 for 3.
