There were no surprises at Coral Reef High School on Wednesday, except that the school had its largest signing in history with 17 football players signing their National Letters of Intent.
All this despite having their former coach Chevas Clements fired in November.
Nicodem Pierre, who signed with Duke, threw for 982 yards and seven touchdowns this past season. Pierre is excited to be heading north.
“The people I’m going to be around will be a little different, but I’m ready to join forces with them,” Pierre said
Pierre, who also ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns, said he’s ready for the cold weather of North Carolina.
Alongside Pierre on signing day was West Virginia signee Jacob McCray, who had 28 receptions and 505 yards receiving this past season.
“The opportunity to play Division 1 football is a major success for me,” McCray said. “I’m going to be the first of my mom’s kids to go play college football so that means a lot to me.”
McCray is hoping to become a starting true freshman for the Mountaineers’ first game next season against Alabama.
